Methodology & disclosure

How we build the matrix, how we're compensated, and what our figures do — and don't — mean.

Our process

How a plan gets scored

Four steps · refreshed each quarter

  1. 01

    Disclosure collection

We gather prospectuses, fee schedules, and provider disclosures directly from each plan sponsor each quarter.

  2. 02

    Normalization

Fees, ROI ranges, and lock-in terms are converted into consistent annualized units so plans can be compared fairly.

  3. 03

    Risk scoring

A 1–10 score is assigned based on historical volatility of the plan's underlying asset allocation.

  4. 04

    Editorial review

Each entry is reviewed against our editorial standards before it's published or updated in the matrix.

Independence

Editorial standards

SecurePlan's editorial team maintains independence from plan sponsors in how each entry is written and scored.

  • 01

Risk scores and ROI ranges are calculated the same way for every plan, regardless of partner relationship.

  • 02

Plan copy is written from provider disclosures, not marketing material supplied by sponsors.

  • 03

Matrix ordering defaults to neutral sort criteria; sponsors cannot pay for placement.

  • 04

Figures are refreshed at least once per quarter, or sooner if a provider updates terms.

Compensation

Affiliate transparency

SecurePlan is a lead generation and comparison platform. We may receive compensation from partner advisory firms and plan sponsors when a visitor requests a consultation or opens an account through our site.

This compensation does not change the price a client pays for a plan and does not influence the risk scores or ROI ranges we publish. Where a listed plan is offered by a compensating partner, that relationship is disclosed on request.

We are not a registered investment advisor, broker-dealer, or tax professional. Nothing on this site constitutes personalized investment, legal, or tax advice.

Important

Risk disclosure

Read these carefully before using the matrix to shortlist plans.

Investment risk

All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal. Estimated ROI ranges shown on this site are estimates based on historical and modeled performance bands, and are not a guarantee, promise, or projection of future results. Past performance of an asset class or strategy does not indicate future performance.

Lock-in & liquidity

Plans with a stated lock-in period or surrender schedule may impose fees or restrictions on early withdrawal. Review a plan's full disclosure documents, available through a partner advisor, before committing capital.

Fee impact

Advisory fees compound over time and reduce net returns. The ROI Projection Calculator on each plan detail page nets the stated advisory fee from the estimated return range to illustrate this effect.

Not personalized advice

Content on SecurePlan is general in nature and does not account for any individual's specific financial situation. Speak with a licensed advisor before making investment decisions.

01

Data handling

Consultation requests are shared only with the advisory partner you select, never sold to third parties.

02

Partner licensing

Advisory partners referenced through SecurePlan are U.S.-licensed and independently verified before onboarding.

03

Quarterly review

Every plan listing is re-verified against current provider disclosures at the start of each quarter.
